OCTOBER 29, 2008 -THE FLORIDA ANNUAL CONFERENCE:  REV. DAVID DODGE WILL BE ON CAMPUS TO INTERVIEW WITH FLORIDA STUDENTS AND OTHER INTERESTED SEMINARIANS FROM 10:00 AM - 12:00 NOON IN THE BISHOP L. SCOTT ALLEN CONFERENCE ROOM-GAMMON HALL.

REV. L. CHARLES STOVALL, HONORED BY DALLAS PEACE CENTER

The Dallas  Peace Center (DPC) hosted its 22nd annual Peacemaker Awards Dinner on Thursday, December 4th at the Double Tree Hotel, honoring Rev. L. charles Stovall, Hope for Peace & Justice, Robert Dennis and Mavis Belisle for their diverse and successful efforts in promoting peace,justice and human rights.

Rev. Stovall will received the 2008 Peacemaker of the Year Award for a body of peace and justice work that spans several decades and continents.  His  strong and consistent demand for justice for the most marginalized in society have taken him to the voting booths of South Africa, where he monitored their first all race election, and to the streets of South Dallas, where he has campaigned against police brutality and racial violence.

Rev. Stovall is a graduate of Clark Atlanta University and Gammon Theological Seminary, where he received the Master of Divinity degree.  Rev. Stovall is married to Denise Johnson Stovall and they have two children.

Rev.  James P. Amerson is presently senior pastor of the historical Simpson United Methodist Church in Austin, Texas.  An Elder in the Southwest Texas Annual Conference,  Rev. Amerson has a pastor's heart because of his profound love for people.  This love for people gives him an enthusiasm for seeing individuals mature in their faith and love for God.

Rev. Melvin Amerson is an ordained Elder in the Texas Annual Conference where he serves as a Stewardship Consultant for the Texas Methdodist Foundation.  Known for his energetic and engaging presentations, Melvin has led numerous training events across the country, and is the author of Stewardship in African American Churches:  A New Paradigm (Discipleship Resources).  He resides in the Austin, Texas area. 


REV. CANDACE LEWIS

Class of 1996

Rev. Candace Lewis graduated from Gammon Theological Seminary in May 1996.  Rev. Lewis was appointed in the Florida Annual Conference to start a new church in 1997.  Her church, New Life UMC celebrated their 11th Anniversary recently and purchased a 1.2 million dollar church  building on 8 acres in Jacksonville, Florida.  Rev. Lewis' church has a community based Christian pre-school--The Village Christian Academy that serves over 100 students daily and employs over 15 full and part-time staff.

Rev. Lewis is widely sought after as a Revivalist, Seminar Presentor, and  dynamic Speaker.


Rev. Chester Jones, District Superintendent

Class of 1975

The Rev. Chester Jones, formerly the top Executive of the United Methodist Commission on Religion and Race left this position in July 2007.  Rev. Jones was appointed a District Superintendent in the Arkansas Annual Conference, The South Central District based in Hot Springs, Arkansas.  He will supervise about 70 churches as superintendent of the South Central District.

Rev. Jones, an Arkansas native accepted the invitation of Bishop Charles N. Crutchfield to join his cabinet.  Rev. Jones had served as District Superintendent of The Pine Bluff District in the Little Rock Conference for six years before becoming the commission's third general secreatry inn 1999 of the General Commission on Religion and Race in Washington, D.C.

Rev. Jones previously was pastor of Hunter United Methodist Church in Little Rock -the conference's first cross-racial appointment.  Prior to that he worked for the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries as a field representative for its Office of Town and Country Ministries and as a consultatnt for its Ethnic Minority Local Church missional priority work.

Rev. Chester Jones was a 1975 honor graduate of Gammon Theological Seminary.
